here is new york: voices of 9.11

Voices of 9.11 is a people’s archive of September 11 with hundreds of video oral histories from New York, Washington DC, Shanksville, PA and the Pentagon.

From March 2002- March 2003 people recorded their testimonies in a free-standing video booth. We strongly encouraged everyone to speak as personally as possible but placed absolutely no restrictions on what could or could not be said. The start and stop button was controlled by the individual speaker. There was no time limit and people recorded in whatever language they felt most comfortable. Contributors include WTC and Pentagon survivors, family members, area residents and first responders. We collected over 500 personal testimonies as the booth traveled from New York, Washington DC, Shanksville, PA and to the Pentagon.

Below is a small selection of Voices of 9.11. It is our hope that the collection will become a public archive of personal 9.11 testimonies.
